Birthday banners? Check. Balloons? Check. Party poppers? Check. Prosecco? Check. This month it’s five years since Making You Content was first launched into the world.
To celebrate our birthday, we thought we’d take the opportunity to look back at key moments from the last five years, and how we’ve gone from strength to strength. So, join us as we travel through our timeline…
March 2014: The very beginning
Our Kelly has always had a passion for words. She couldn’t even put her pen down while adventuring around South America, and supported her travels with copywriting. After returning to the UK, Kelly decided to embark on a different kind of adventure. Casual freelancing was transformed into a full-time business and Making You Content was born.
November 2015: National recognition
Loving the self-employed life and accumulating clients, Kelly entered IPSE’s ‘Young Freelancer of the Year’ award. Not only was it an opportunity to connect with the diverse UK freelance market, but it also offered recognition and a prize fund. Kelly beat the masses and won, with the exposure and finance helping her move Making You Content to its next stage.
April 2016: One becomes two
Not long after the triumph, Kelly found the call for her services was outweighing the hours in the day. And so she brought on Making You Content’s very first employee: Josh. With an extra copywriter crafting words, MYC was able to ensure supply could meet the demand, and there was also time to progress the business.
May 2017: Moving on up
As spring turned into summer, work continued to amass. MYC began utilising a local freelancer’s talent: Gareth. Familiarity with our clients and quality copywriting skills meant that when demand required another full-time employee, taking on Gareth was instinctive.
With more growth on the horizon, we moved to a space that could accommodate our trio and any additional hires: Binks Building HQ, our home today.
February 2018: Making steps
For a while, the team fine-tuned each other’s work to keep standards high. But with business development in full swing, Kelly, Josh and Gareth’s hands were soon full.
Cue a dedicated editor: Lucinda. She came on to act as brand guardian for our clients, and allowed us to expand our copywriting team too.
2018: A milestone year
These new content writers came in the form of Miranda and Sam. And as creating copy links closely with content distribution, it was natural to expand our service offering also.
Helen was brought in as our first social media manager, and it’s been a huge success. 2018 definitely became our milestone year!
With MYC’s growth accelerating, we wanted to take the time to give back to those not so fortunate. We started the year by appointing our Charity of the Year: Barnabus, who bring hope to the streets of Manchester.
As homelessness is one of the biggest issues facing our city, it was a fitting choice. Having volunteered with the organisation during the January cold snap, we will be returning in March, as well as carrying out activities throughout 2019 to support them.
March 2019: Celebrating our fifth birthday
MYC is showing no signs of slowing down. We’re celebrating our quinquennial as a team of eight and our growth plans are in full force as we take on a second editor, Lucy, to ensure the business is on track for its progression.
At the same time, you may have noticed teasers of brilliant new branding and imagery from the fabulous Electric Circus and Paul Fawley, which we’ll be revealing in full over the coming weeks. We can only look forward to the future: here’s to the next five years of making our clients not just content, but delighted!
