The Apprentice Diaries: Grace’s First Month
Having recently hired our first apprentice, Grace, with the help of the team at Apprentify, we were keen to find out what it was like learning on the job at MYC…
With my apprenticeship starting nearly a month ago, I wanted to create a log of all the new writing and marketing techniques I have learnt. I also thought it might be interesting to show what it’s like working in an agency as an apprentice.
Finding my feet
During my first week at Making You Content I met my Apprentify tutor, Dale. He helped me understand the process of the apprenticeship, and how I needed to structure my learning to get the most out of these 15 months.
Getting started
Working in an agency allows me to explore various topics, and gain a breadth of knowledge across multiple area, which is exactly what I was looking for. During my first few weeks, I explored a wide range of skills that Making You Content specialise in. From blogs to newsletters to infographics, you really never get bored!
Here are some of my personal favourite projects I have worked on:
– Mental health blog
For this piece, I had to change my writing style to fit a more friendly and understandable tone. I thoroughly enjoyed writing this blog, as I already knew quite a lot about the content I was researching.
Getting to know the team
I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far at Making You Content – Kelly and the team are lovely. As I’m new to the industry, they’re very understanding; the atmosphere at Making You Content is very relaxed, and I feel I get the support from the whole team regarding my work.
We went out on the Friday of my first week to celebrate my first few days and a colleague’s birthday. At my last company, we never did any social events together. However, here at Making You Content there are a lot of out-of-work activities that I can get involved in, making me feel a part of the team.
Looking forward to learning more
Being the first apprentice to join Making You Content seems surreal to me. The amount of experience within the office undoubtedly puts me at ease, as I know I’ll be getting the best training. The comfortable atmosphere along with the amount of social nights I get to tag along to makes MYC an amazing place to work. It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer than a month – I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!
I know I’ll be able to further my career and constantly improve here, which is everything I was hoping for from an apprenticeship. Now, I’m looking forward to more challenging projects as I move into my second month!
