Self-Starters, Self-Assessments and the Self-Employed

As January comes to a close, it feels like a lifetime ago that we were turning our out of office emails on and tucking into turkey. As everyone starts to get into the swing of 2016, we have lots of exciting projects and new clients on the horizon.

To bring you up to speed with the latest news here at Making You Content, let us give you a quick round-up of developments at our copywriting agency:

BBC Radio 5 Live

Our founder, Kelly, had a bright and early start this morning, having been invited to the BBC Radio 5 Live studio to feature on their Wake Up to Money programme. The topic, which discussed Google’s controversial tax payments, self-assessments and the looming HMRC deadline, went live at 5.50am.

In case you missed it (let’s face it, it was early!), here’s the link to listen again. You’ll find the topic 34 minutes in, and our interview at the 40-minute mark.

Unleashing the Self Employed

Did you know, a record-breaking 4.6 million people in the UK are now self-employed? Have you thought about the impact this will have (or at least, should have) on government policy and the economy? Well, IPSE has certainly given it a lot of thought, and has been fighting the corner of freelancers, contractors and the wider self-employed community for some time now.

On the 26th of April, IPSE will be hosting its flagship policy conference, Unleashing the Self Employed, in London. Kelly has been invited to join the interview panel for a round of questioning by broadcaster Declan Curry; we can’t wait to get involved!

A Month of Free Blogging

Cast your mind back to December, and you may remember our competition to win a month of free blogging. We revealed the winner – Burwell IT – just before Christmas, and have been busy working away on their blog over the past few weeks.

We’ve had some excellent feedback from Burwell IT on our blogging services, and look forward to working together again in the near future!

Self Starter of the Year

As well as giving away prizes, we’ve been fortunate enough to receive some this month! Having been named Self Starter of the Week back in May 2015, we were shortlisted for the Startacus Self Starter of the Year 2015 award earlier this month.

The public cast their vote to decide upon a winner, and we were delighted to clinch a runner-up spot in 3rd place. Congratulations to Susi Wisniewski of TripLinks who came out on top. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote, as well as Startacus and sponsors for a fantastic selection of prizes!

Well, that’s another month done and dusted, and a brilliant one at that. Whether you’re celebrating the end of dry January or commiserating your tax return this Friday, have a fantastic weekend. Next stop, February!
