From Manchester to London: We’re Always On The Run

We’ve settled into our office, gained a new pair of hands, and breathlessly told you about our work with a freelancing organisation. There was enough excitement last month to inspire reams of Classical poetry – if only we had the time!

We’re writing thick and fast at the minute, but we thought it’d be nice to set aside a moment or two to bring you up to speed on what’s been happening. Let’s round up all the news for May, just to give you a flavour of where Making You Content is headed over the coming weeks…

Both Feet Forward

Charity starts at home, right? Well, Manchester is certainly our home, and we’re proud to announce that our founder, Kelly Gilmour-Grassam, will be taking part in the Great Manchester Run on Sunday the 22nd. She’s done admirably so far, raising over £300 for After Adoption, a support service for children and parents in the local area.

We can’t promise she’ll be the next Paula Radcliffe, but Kelly’s been training hard to do us all proud. You can sponsor her here, cheer her on at the side-lines, or catch her sweaty face on the live BBC 2 broadcast from 11am.

Speaking of Freelancing…

Not only has Kelly been training rigorously for her run, but the tail end of last month saw her sitting on a panel at the IPSE Policy Conference in London, waxing lyrical on the realities of life as a freelance copywriter. The event was very informative, with debates on Brexit, tax and the hot topics facing the freelance community – we can also confirm she thoroughly enjoyed the black-tie dinner afterwards, and the couple of sherries that washed it down.

If you’re at all interested in what it takes to be a freelancer and the realities of self-employment, check out the full video of her panel discussion here. Pause at 28:44 for the best illustration of her typing speed.

Get ‘Em While They’re Young

Since being in London always captures our general spirit of freeform creativity, it’s wonderful to say we’re going back, this time to inspire the next generation to make their own ventures into the world of self-employment.

We’ll be giving a talk at Nower Hill High School’s Year 12 Careers Day, as we attempt to light the fire of entrepreneurial passion in their eyes. Often, it’s the opinions of the young that can mean the most to us, so we’re thrilled to have this chance to engage with the next generation on the challenges and opportunities of self-employment.

There are, of course, a myriad of things we’d love to tell you about, but these are a few of the highlights from the past couple of weeks. As our Junior Copywriter finds his feet, we’ll have plenty more to tell you in the coming months.

Good conversation keeps us going, so why not contact us to discuss your copywriting needs? We’d be more than happy to give you a quote!
